NAME:
Matt Lavine
BIO:
Fox 26 viewers have been waking up with meteorologist Matt Lavine for accurate weather forecasts since 1990. Matt is a full member of the American Meteorological Association and The National Weather Association and has both the AMS and NWA seals of approval.
In addition to weather, Matt also does feature reporting, and he was the first person to interview Kelly Clarkson live from Los Angeles, immediately after she won the first season of the hit FOX show American Idol.
Matt has also boldly gone where very few have gone before with a role as an extra on the set of Star Trek Enterprise. In 2005 Matt starred in the sci-fi short Matt Mercury and His Rocket Rangers which won a gold “Remi” at WorldFest Houston.
A 25-year TV news veteran, Matt’s broadcast career began right here in Houston back in 1980. He’s worked in various capacities for KUHT-TV, KPRC-TV and KHOU-TV.
While in Austin, Matt covered the State Capital via KPRC-TV’s Austin Bureau, reported and shot news for KXAN-TV and anchored news updates for KIXL Radio on the AM dial.
Matt later transferred to Mississippi State to pursue a career in meteorology. From there, Matt became the weekend meteorologist for KJAC-TV in Beaumont-Port Arthur and was later named Chief Meteorologist before assuming his morning weather duties at Fox 26 in Houston.
